Frequently asked questions.
Straight answers about leadership and executive coaching with Charles E. Stevens.
Who is leadership and executive coaching for?
Coaching is for leaders who want to grow, not because they're failing, but because they're ready to lead at a higher level.
I work with current and emerging leaders who are navigating new leadership responsibilities, developing teams, managing greater complexity, or preparing for their next level of leadership.
This may include executives, principals and educational leaders, department or team leaders, and high-potential professionals preparing for greater responsibility.
What do we actually work on during coaching?
Coaching is built around the challenges you're facing right now.
We may work on transitioning into a new leadership role, developing and empowering your team, communication, delegation, accountability, difficult conversations, decision-making, leadership confidence, or preparing for greater responsibility.
The goal isn't simply to solve today's challenge. It's to develop your capacity to lead more effectively tomorrow.
How is coaching different from consulting, mentoring, or training?
Training gives you information. Mentoring shares experience. Consulting often provides recommendations. Coaching helps you think more deeply, see new possibilities, and take intentional action.
As your coach, I won't simply tell you what to do. I'll ask questions, challenge your thinking, draw on my experience when appropriate, and hold you accountable to the actions you choose.
The goal is to help you become a more capable leader, not to make you dependent on your coach.
What makes your approach to leadership coaching different?
My approach is shaped by more than 30 years of developing people in real leadership environments.
I've been a teacher, basketball coach, principal, martial arts instructor, and now an executive and leadership coach and consultant.
Those experiences have taught me that leadership isn't ultimately about having all the answers. It's about developing people, building capacity, and multiplying your impact.
I help leaders Lead with Purpose, Develop People, and Multiply Impact.
How do I know if coaching is right for me?
You may benefit from coaching if you're asking questions like:
How do I lead people who used to be my peers?
How do I stop being the person everyone depends on?
How do I hold people accountable without damaging trust?
How do I develop the people on my team?
How do I prepare for my next level of leadership?
You don't have to have a major problem to benefit from coaching. Sometimes the best time to work with a coach is before the challenge becomes a problem.
You don't have to have everything figured out before you reach out.
Maybe you've recently stepped into a leadership role. Maybe your team has grown and the way you've always led isn't working the same way anymore. Or maybe you're simply ready to become a more intentional and effective leader.
Whatever has you thinking about leadership development, let's talk.
An initial conversation is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, talk about the challenges you're facing, and explore whether coaching could be helpful for you or your organization.
No pressure. No obligation. Just a conversation about where you are, where you want to go, and what it might take to get there.
